About this Video
About the Video: Former University of New Mexico President F. Chris Garcia has been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on a $35,000 cash or surety bond on charges of promoting prostitution, tampering with evidence and conspiracy.
Officials tell the Albuquerque Journal that Garcia’s arrest is connected to the ongoing multistate online prostitution ring that surfaced over the weekend.
David C. Flory, a physics professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, was arrested Sunday and charged with 40 counts of promoting prostitution for allegedly operating the online ring, known as “Southwest Companions.”
Albuquerque police said that former University of New Mexico President F. Chris Garcia’s alleged role in a prostitution ring was to go out and solicit new “talent.”
They said 71-year-old Garcia was an alleged member of the ring’s “Hunt Club,” in charge of soliciting women for the business.
Police said they don’t believe Garcia’s motive was to make money but rather to provide a safe place for prostitution without risk of arrest.
