About this Video
About the Video: Sandoval County Fire Chief Jon Tibbetts was the “ambulance guy” that earned the admiration of seasoned firefighters with his fearless work ethic, he was the “solid man” who showed patience and compassion, and he was the “sweet man” who played ball with his daughters in the park.
Hundreds of firefighters, law enforcement officers, friends, colleagues and family members, packed the Santa Ana Star Center memorial service for Tibbetts who died July 23 in a vehicle accident.
Tibbetts was on duty and traveling north on Interstate 25 near Bernalillo when a Cadillac that had struck the concrete median rebounded into traffic and collided with his county vehicle. Tibbetts’ Ford flipped over the median and landed in a southbound lane. He died at the scene.
After the service, there was a procession through Rio Rancho to the Vista Verde Memorial Park where Tibbetts was interred in the Public Servants Garden reserved for firefighters, police and emergency medical service personnel.
